Chikanka Island

Lakeview Lodge offers guest a wide range of activities in and around Lake Kariba, including tiger fishing, birding and boat cruises.

Tiger fishing is a main attraction for visitors to Lake Kariba and, although fishing is good year round, the best season for catching tiger fish is from September to December.

Chikanka Island offers guests the opportunity to experience the thrill of viewing wildlife on foot. Guided walks on Chete and Chikanka islands are dependent on the season and Zawa Scouts availability, and they need to be booked in advance.

Birding on the islands is excellent, and our staff will share their knowledge of the wildlife, vegetation and ecology. Game and birding walks can be arranged for the morning or afternoon. Please note that we do not walk when the elephants are visiting the islands!

Guests are also able to enjoy a cruise around the islands to view the wildlife and take in the beauty of Lake Kariba. Elephant often frequent the islands and this is an ideal way to view them while relaxing on the boat, while hippos and crocodiles are a sure sighting! Whether you are staying at Lakeview Lodge or Chikanka Island, why not book our sunset cruise - a lovely way to end the day!
